ORIENT-EXPRESS OFFERS A TASTE OF RUSSIA ONBOARD THE BRITISH PULLMAN

24 September 2008

For one evening, “The Dinner”, the British Pullmans gastronomic black-tie evenings, will be themed for this Russian celebration on the 8th November.  Executive Chef Dominique Ferchaud and his Sous Chef Yoan Bernard from the Grand Hotel Europe will be working along-side Matthew Smith, the Executive Chef from the British Pullman, to create a unique menu fit for the Tsars.

The evening will commence with Russian Vodka cocktails and a traditional bread and salt ceremony at the Orient-Express check-in lounge in London Victoria. Onboard and as the train gently glides on the rails, uniformed stewards will serve the sumptuous Russian inspired feast, featuring interesting culinary combinations, prepared by Ferchaud, Yoan and Smith.  The cuisine will be complemented by the sommelier’s choice of fine wines.

Guests will be entertained by strolling musicians who will be performing a series of romantic Russian love songs.

As a memento guests will be presented with a set of traditional Russian dolls as well as chocolate made by Ferchaud in the Grand Hotel Europe’s Chocolate Factory.

The opulent art deco surroundings of the original Pullman carriages, all built in the 1920s and 30s, evoke an atmosphere of retro glamour, giving guests the ideal excuse to dress to impress.

The Russian Dinner departs London Victoria on the 8th November 2008 at 1930 and returns at 2230. The price is £345 per person.

Notes to editors:
Acquired by Orient-Express Hotels Ltd in February 2005, the Grand Hotel Europe is an historical landmark dating from 1824.  The building’s magnificent baroque façade was designed by the Italian architect Rossi. The hotel is in the heart of St. Petersburg, across from the Shostakovich Philharmonic, next to the Russian Museum and the Moussorgsky opera and ballet theatre and within walking distance of the Hermitage Museum and the Winter Palace Square. The hotel’s 301 rooms include 89 suites, 17 of which have terraces overlooking the Russian Museum in Arts Square. It has seven restaurants and bars that include the art nouveau splendour of L’Europe, serving French and European specialities beneath an original stained glass ceiling.

Sister train to the famous Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, the British Pullman captivates and enthrals with a stylish collection of day excursions and short break travel experiences across the UK.
